to those of you wishing to translate this page and then browse the links translated you should first bookmark it, add it to your favorite links, then if you can not browse backwards or return to a prior open window you can at least open the main page again from a saved link, click on the appropriate flag for translation, and be able to start over better educated for browsing. the reason for this is that during tests most links translate but a few do not, leaving a internet traveler stranded without means of further study. if this happens to you, you may return here using your saved link, and translate it again not making the same mistake twice. i have tried to have all links ( except for reciprocal links i was unable to change ) open in their own window for better ease of browsing ( you may close the old windows behind you leaving the one open you are using ). chances are if it is not advertising it will translate. clicking on the "bookmark this page" above will only save this page in it's english translation no matter the present language you are viewing, to save this page after translation into your language use your browser's favorite or bookmark button but not the "bookmark this page" above.
here are some things to remember and practice. no one likes a slow computer so read.
first: it is not uncommon to know that if your computer runs slow on a server that it may be the other computer user there at that server who is at fault. your dirty computer could be slowing down other player's computers. this is why i keep my computer clean and i learn the best settings for the present situation. i use microsoft windows and things come with it to help but they do not really speed up my computer much. still they are good. they are simple to learn so here goes. microsoft has never made a good virus control. any virus control that comes with windows is second or third party. it often is trial ware. not bad if you have the money. there are many free virus control software out there. there is no excuse for not downloading one and using it. besides, you will be making it easier for all those computer users out there that you communicate with.
here are the bad people to watch out for and try and avoid.
people with money but not concern who with mostly money buy and use extremely powerful personal computers, often they do not clean their computers, their computers are full of garbage and viruses, they use their computers as bulldozers and seem not to hear when others ask their help. they fail to understand that we share the internet computer world.
people without much money but with the same types of computers and with an equal attitude as the dirty rich type. they seem to think that by making it hard on others they fit better in a crowd, as a part of this they can not be talked with and reasoned with. it is not that they have less feeling, it is that they do less. it only appears they are heartless.
people who own and share servers, or are in an internet business that includes buying and selling, but lack the kindness to share the truth which can hurt and even cripple those that make the mistake. i personally have seen them so bad they will steal money from a customer while playing the part of an accomplished computer user with sound advice. they have their lines right, it sounds good to the poor man on the brink of loss.
then the extreme opposite, the common folks called the public. they have simple minds that can not grasp a meaning further into the future. this short sighted approach can really set back a good man. it is not that any one of their computers is extremely dirty or hazardous since it is only one person and one computer, but the whole of the public can make up more then all big computer owners total. they ask a question like "how can your computer effect my computer", then forget any answer given before tomorrow. "how can that hurt us" they then ask.
listen, lets all join in and help each other better maneuver through the internet. you keep your computer clean, that way no one else will dirty it up for you, your computer will run smoothly. here is what i do each time i install windows on my computer and periodically. you can do the same for free or almost free.
right after i install windows, or when i learn of it, i uninstall or remove games and programs i know i will never use. i am not rich, windows collaborates with software manufacturers and offers computer buyers using the windows operating system special offers. these come with their microsoft software and install with it, not the same as microsoft. still the cost is high, or simply no good, so often i look for alternative methods. example: i have stopped using america online so i go into my control panel ( click on the "start" button in lower left of screen, then choose "Control Panel". in Control Panel choose "Add or Remove Programs" ) and remove it from my computer. in the same Add or Remove Programs i look for things i have learned i never use and remove them too. then i click on the tab "Add/Remove Window Components" in the Add or Remove Programs and remove those games i do not play on my computer from my computer. if after i remove a game or program from my computer i find a part of it must be manually removed i do so, click on "My Computer" in start menu, then "Local Disk C:", then "Program Files", here often i find the remains of games and programs i have deleted from my computer. i right click the garbage, choose "Delete" from the right click menu and it is gone.
i clean out all the files not used. i have several real nice programs that i install that electronically go into my computer and clean the parts i can not see or understand to see. these files are not used by my computer and can cause error messages. they include parts of programs written to the registry or otherwise logged to my computer, old temporary files no longer needed by the installation process, backup files that will never be used ( if you are certain you have what is not often said as a "good install" of your operating system and you know you will not need to reinstall it soon, there is no harm in once getting rid of all the log files once to make certain you do not have an excessive amounts of log files on your computer. i do this only once on a clean install of windows, after that i leave my log files be because i am the type of computer user that keeps a record of all i do handy in case some one like good old uncle sam knocks at my door asking. ), bits and pieces and empty folders used as a default save folder created by programs i have deleted, invalid shortcuts made by programs on install left behind after uninstall. at some time during this i go into my start menu and in "All Programs" and in "Accessories" and in "System Tools" i choose "Disk Cleanup", i put a check in the box beside every thing but "Recycle Bin" ( i prefer to manually delete things from my recycle bin which i do often ) and "Compress old files" ( i have heard and believe that a few programs will not run well compressed so if i compress any files i use a program like UPX ( http://upx.sourceforge.net/ ) to choose which programs to compress, this takes experimentation and some times a reinstall. read this at http://www.worldstart.com/tips/system-management/compress-ntfs.htm and http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/make-disk-cleanup-compress-olderor-newer-files-on-xp/ ) ( so i put a check beside "Downloaded Program Files" and "Temporary Internet Files" and "Temporary Files" and Webclient/Publisher Temporary Files" and "Catalog files for the Content Indexer" and then click the "OK" button. if you are a publisher with temporary files you may uncheck this too for safety, ). i want you to have these too, for our sake, not mine alone. you will be surprised at all the room these junk files take up on a computer, i have removed hundreds of megabytes right after installing windows. this also speeds up the computer a little leaving less room for error. if you have a modern computer like mine, it has an automatic update installed on it. among things i do after i have installed my internet connection is download updates for about a week till i am pretty certain i am fairly up to date for the next month or year ( this includes an update of my internet explorer ) and then i disable the update mechanism for about a time if possible so it does not slow down the computer just as i become involved in a job while connected. about once a day or once a month i go into my internet setting and clean some more of my computer cluttered by internet browsing. here is how it is done.
to clean your internet tracks
there are two ways i know of accessing your internet settings to then clean your internet tracks ( internet tracks: any obvious information on your browsing habit, name and address, credit card information, passwords, etc. often explained as easily gotten by other internet users who find ways of getting by any of your weak computer permissions and have your computer give information over to they through the internet that they can use against you, in the form of advertisements or even ilegaly removing funds from your bank). one way to access your internet settings is thorough the control panel. to find it you click on your computer "start" button that is in the lower left side of your computer screen, then in the "control panel" you will see an icon labeled "internet options". in internet options there are buttons that when you click on them they clean that portion of your computer clean from any proof you have filled in online forms, that way no one can get your information. the main buttons you want to click are in the "internet options" when you open it, they are labeled "delete cookies", "delete files" and "clear history". your "cookies" are little things used by the web masters you do business with that are a record of your visit to their site, they wait silently till next time you visit that same site and then they recognize the site and tell it that you are a member. they let the internet computer at that site know that you have been there before and when you were there so that you can log in for business without having to fill in a form each time you want to enter the site. they are like little electronic robots downloaded into your computer from the internet computer that stay in your computer after your first visit to that site so that you can more easily do business. the only trouble with deleting cookies from your computer that i know of is that without them you can not use log in software or macro making software to automate your log ins after they are deleted. in stead you must again fill in a form to enter the site and again the cookie is downloaded into your computer. each time you enter the same site you get the same little cookie again from that site. it has been explained that some cookies are bad because they hold information on you that you will want no one else to learn of, this is why some people delete them from time to time. if you do not join many sites and do not log in often you do not need to delete those cookies. the "delete files" button in your internet options is not to mean "files". it means temporary files. temporary files are created each time you do a computer job that is saved to your computer. often programs make a back up copy of a text file you type or a file you download from the internet because to do the job takes time and the computer has been programmed to periodically keep your work safe during its making. to do this the computer creates temporary files of your work up to the moment that it does not later delete.
i then install various safety software to keep viruses out of my computer, to create and manage computer fire walls and to fine tune ( "tweak" ) all the various settings that steady the use of my computer. also, i install software to stop messenger pop ups.
i then update my most important software. i update my operating system ( windows ) and i add fire walls that come with virus control software to block entrance to my computer from internet hackers. i make sure i have the latest video and audio components, the older only run slower. activex, directx, flash player, java runtime environment, Adaptec ASPI layer, all the basic audio and video codecs. ms.net framework, if needed all the visual basic runtime files, ghostscript ( i make certain i have all the simple viewers for the more common video and audio )

Standard controls include
Restart CD, Move back a track, Move forward a track, Play/Pause, Stop
The display shows the current track and the current time position within that track.
Clicking the minimize button will hide the main window and create an icon in the system tray. Resting the cursor over this icon shows the current track and the total number of tracks available in the form of a tooltip.
Clicking on the tray icon brings up a menu where you can choose to open up the main window again or select any of the standard play controls as with the main window buttons.
You can even place CD over the task bar (where it fits quite nicely!) and it will continue to be visible.

Foxit Reader 2.1 for Windows
Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size (only 2.1 M download size), breezing-fast launch speed and amazingly rich feature set. Foxit Reader supports Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003/Vista. Its core function is compatible with PDF Standard 1.7.
In the past, you have to download a huge PDF reader from another software company, go through a lengthy installation process and wait for an annoying splash window to disappear just to open a PDF document. Moreover, if you want to annotate a PDF document, you have to pay US$299 to buy certain software.
Now with Foxit Reader, you don't have to endure such pain any more.
Foxit Reader itself is free. As to add-ons, the critical add-ons are free while advanced add-ons are non-free. For example, you can use the following functions for free:
View or print PDF document
Basic PDF form operations i.e. filling out PDF forms and printing them out
Advanced PDF form operations, such as saving filled-out forms and import/export forms, free for personal usage only
View PDF as text
Critical add-ons, such as UI language package, JPEG2000/JBIG decoder, CJK package, GDI+ for early Windows version, etc
The followings are several examples of non-free, advanced add-ons:
Foxit Reader Pro Pack is not free. It includes the following functions:
Annotation
Text viewer and text converter
Form filler
Spell checker
Advanced editing tools, including loupe tool, measure tools, image tool, file attachment tool, link tools, annotation selection tool, and more
Actually without Pro Pack, you are still able to annotate a PDF document and print it out. However when you save the annotated document, it will be stamped with an evaluation mark on the top-right corner of the annotated pages. If you purchase a Pro Pack add-on, then there will be no evaluation mark.
Foxit Form Designer is not free. It enables you to add push buttons, text fields, check boxes, list boxes or radio buttons to an interactive PDF form and specify their properties. If you purchase a license for Foxit Form Designer, the license automatically covers all the features that are available in Pro Pack.
You may evaluate form designer functions before buying it. If you do so, evaluation marks will be added to the top-right corner of the modified pages. If you purchase a license of Foxit Form Designer, you will be able to get rid of the evaluation marks.
Foxit PDF Creator, which allows you to convert a non-PDF file into a PDF file, is non-free.
Foxit PDF Editor, which allows you to modify content of a PDF file, is non-free.

Before you can install or run a program written in Visual Basic, you must first install the "Visual Basic Runtime". A runtime need only be installed once. Its files are then shared by every VB program you install.
Currently, there are four versions of the VB runtime, one for each release of the VB programming language. The version of the runtime you should install depends on the version of the VB language used to write the VB program you want to run. For example, to run a program written in VB v6.0, you must install the Visual Basic Runtime v6.0. If you are unsure which runtime version you need, you may download and install all four. That way you'll be ready for any VB program you might try in the future!

The latest Adaptec ASPI layer
An ASPI layer consists of four files that 'lie between' various programs [software] and certain devices, such as CD/DVD-ROM drives and CD/DVD burners/writers [hardware].
Software programs such as CD digital audio extractors [commonly known as 'Rippers'] and CD-writing utilities such as CDRWin use/require ASPI drivers to 'communicate with' SCSI devices.
Many people don't realize however, that the files contained in an ASPI layer are also used in systems that *don't* contain a SCSI adapter, or SCSI devices .. for things such as ripping CD audio and burning CD/DVDs.

Ghostscript
Ghostscript is a suite of software based on an interpreter for Adobe Systems' PostScript and Portable Document Format (PDF) page description languages.
Ghostscript can be used as a raster image processor (RIP) for raster computer printers - for instance, as an input filter of line printer daemon - or as the RIP engine behind PostScript and PDF viewers.
Ghostscript can also be used as a file format converter, such as PostScript to PDF converter; this is often combined with a PostScript printer driver in "virtual printer" PDF creators.
As it takes the form of a language interpreter, Ghostscript can also be used as a general purpose programming environment.
Ghostscript has been ported to many operating systems, including most Unix and Unix-like systems (including Linux), Mac OS, OpenVMS, Microsoft Windows and OS/2.

DirectX
Simply put, DirectX® is a Windows technology that enables higher performance in graphics and sound when you're playing games or watching video on your PC.
At the core of DirectX® are its application programming interfaces, or APIs. The APIs act as a kind of bridge for the hardware and the software to "talk" to each other. The DirectX® APIs gives multimedia applications access to the advanced features of high-performance hardware such as three-dimensional (3-D) graphics acceleration chips and sound cards. They control low- level functions, including two- dimensional (2-D) graphics acceleration; support for input devices such as joysticks, keyboards, and mice; and control of sound mixing and sound output.
Because of DirectX®, what you experience with your computer is better 3-D graphics and immersive music and audio effects.

i disable certain parts of programs that start with window when it starts or reboots. these are extras, often thrown into programs for convenience, but when they start with windows and start running after the computer starts, it appears they are not that needed. with a few clicks i can have these same programs running and less hard on my computer so i let the conveniences lie disabled. often the icon to start such an added a part of a program exists in the same start menu folder as the main program icon, even after you disable it you can restart it after the computer is running by simply clicking on its icon. as long as these conveniences are not running the computer runs faster. you must experiment to learn which ones you can do without. here are ways i do it.
there are simple programs that diagnose your start up folder contents and give a description of what they pertain to. if some are by mistake disabled the computer will not start and run correctly. often unless you are a more experienced computer user knowing how to "safe boot" your computer and reenable what you earlier disabled you may need to reinstall windows to get it going again if by mistake you first disabled the wrong thing. so before you disable any thing in your start up folder please learn what it is for. also, before you go as far as deleting any thing in your start up folder disable it to see if your computer works correctly without it.

note: during the process of installing and trying any combination above you will likely need to know that uninstalling those programs that do not work or that give you trouble is easy and should be done. if it is a stand alone simply delete the file or folder the files are in ( some times a stand alone program will consist of several file parts, one of which is the executable ( *.exe ) that activates the program interface ( you will need to guess it ), often it is a good idea to keep them together to be less confusing during use in a folder of their own in your "Program Files" folder, name the folder what ever you want, then open it and right click on the main program file ( the executable ) and send a shortcut to the desktop from the right click menu selection "Send To" --> "Desktop (create shortcut)" ). if it is not a stand alone program you wish to uninstall but a installed program then find your "Control Panel" and in your control panel choose your "Add or Remove Programs". in there you can remove the installed program.
